NEWBORN AND BABY PORTRAITURE · THE WIRRAL

The first months

Gentle portrait sessions for babies up to three months old, made around your baby's pace on the day.

HERE'S THE THING

A newborn session that isn't a race against the clock.

Most newborn photographers will only photograph babies in the first two weeks of life. If you've had a difficult birth, or you're still recovering, or you're simply not ready to leave the house yet, the standard window doesn't work for you. I photograph babies from their first weeks up to three months old, because the early days of a baby's life are often not when parents are ready to think about photographs.

A session for you if…

You want to be photographed in your own time.

Three weeks post-birth or three months, whichever works for you. Some parents come at six weeks because they've only just felt able to leave the house. Some come at twelve weeks because they wanted those first months at home. There's no wrong moment within the first three months.

You want a session paced around your baby.

Feeding, settling, changing, sleeping mid-session is part of how it's meant to go. The session is built around what your baby needs on the day, not a strict ninety-minute schedule.

You want considered work, not props and tricks.

Quiet light. Soft fabric. Your baby photographed gently, often asleep, often in your arms. No baskets shaped like flowers, no elaborate set changes. Editorial, warm, and made to last.

THIS IS FOR YOU

For new parents, on their own timeline.

First-time parents and second-time, third-time, fourth. Babies born at term and babies born early. Mothers who had straightforward births and mothers who didn't. Single parents, parents in partnership, adoptive parents, the families who are still working out what they look like. Whatever shape your first months are taking, this is for you.

We make the photographs around you, not the other way around.

Before the session, just rest.

Most newborn photographers send detailed prep guides full of things to do and worry about. I send a single short note. Wear something soft and easy to feed in. Bring your baby. That's all I need from you. The studio is set up before you arrive, warm and calm. You don't need to prepare. You just need to come.

The session is led by your baby.

Around ninety minutes in the studio, but we work to your baby's pace, not the clock. If your baby needs to feed mid-session, they feed. If they need to sleep for forty-five minutes, they sleep, and I make portraits of you holding them while they do. If they need a complete reset, we pause. The session ends when we have what we need, which is often sooner than you'd expect.

At the viewing, you see them at this size forever.

About a week after the session, you come back to the studio for your private viewing. Your portraits will be shown to you on a large screen, sized to wall art proportions. These first months go by so quickly. The photograph that hangs above their cot, the folio box for the coffee table, the print to send to grandparents, we design those together. The portraits of your baby at this size, only this size, will not exist anywhere else.

Newborn and Baby Session Fee

I'm welcoming new families into the studio for fine art portrait sessions at my Wirral studio.
Each session is relaxed and fully guided, with a private viewing appointment a week or two afterwards where we'll look through your images together and choose what to order.

A £150 session fee secures your date. I do have special offers for clients who participate in one of my artist projects, where clients grant permission for me to share their images in our displays and social media galleries and are selected via an application process.
